Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ)
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the most misunderstood joint in the human body. That is why Dr. Khalife has aligned herself with a denturist (denture specialist)* who has a broad background in temporomandibular disorders and treatment. If you are a denture wearer or a partial denture wearer who has TMJ syndrome, you need special treatment that many TMJ therapists have difficulty offering. Our expertise is in treating denture wearers with TMJ syndrome or more commonly referred to as temporomandibular disorder (TMD).
Often times, temporomandibular joint specialists have difficulty even in finding a dental laboratory that can build dentures to proper specifications to meet the particular requirements necessary to adequately treat denture wearers who seek temporomandibular relief. That is why we have our own custom in-house dental laboratory controlled environment, in which all of our TMJ treatment splints and corrective dentures are built by one of the highest credentialed denturists in the country.
Before any treatment is attempted, we make sure that we:
- Obtain a complete health history along with a detailed two way discussion and a question/answering session.
- We give our patients a complete comprehensive TMJ evaluation which may also include outside medical and laboratory testing as needed.
Our corrective TMJ therapy is offered with a very significant success rate. Some patients who have been diagnosed with temporomandibular disorders (TMD) have undergone major invasive surgical procedures; often without results. We do not advocate these kinds of treatments; especially as a first resort. Our professionals tend to take a conservative approach. Our corrective noninvasive TMJ therapies have been proven to be very effective. All of our temporomandibular joint treatments are preformed right here in our own facility. However, we often use outside professional services such radiographic and MRI centers, medical laboratory work ups, neurological evaluations, CT Scans and others services as needed.
The most critical part of successfully treating TMJ disorders is a thorough comprehensive evaluation. Our friendly staff will be happy to schedule a free initial evaluation for you.
